Manufacturer figures from official ULTRAFIT performance charts: 35, 50 and 70 retrieved October 4, 2026; 05, 15 and 25 retrieved October 7, 2026.
IR range: 780–2500 nm. Grade 70 is listed at 72% VLT in these charts. TSER is total solar energy rejection; IR rejection is a different metric. No-film performance depends on the original glass, so no unsupported baseline is assigned.

The right shade.
The right information.
Pick a car and a shade, and see each window checked against Minnesota’s 50% rule. Shades are measured on the glass + film, not the film’s label.
The classic look
Dark
25% VLT
The preview cannot run in this browser, but the numbers hold: the lower the percentage, the less light gets through the glass. 5% is limo dark, 70% is barely visible.
Minnesota
Rendered previews on a Tesla Model S and Model Y. Curved glass, factory privacy glass and the light change how a shade looks, and legality is decided by a meter on the installed glass, not by a screen.

Ordinary side/rear limits: at least 50% transmission, with the statute’s ±3% tolerance; luminous reflectance no more than 20%, also ±3%. Film markings and the other statutory requirements still apply. † “Threshold met” means the light reading clears 50% (±3%); it is not a complete compliance certification.
Windshield film cannot ordinarily reduce light transmission or increase reflectance. Medical exemptions require qualifying documentation; they are not automatic. The 2026 amendment includes optometrists and distinguishes temporary and permanent conditions.

Clear answers.
What tint is legal in Minnesota?+
Ordinary sedan side and rear windows require at least 50% combined light transmission, subject to the statutory tolerance. Reflectance, vehicle class, markings and exemptions also matter. Use our comparison table and the linked statute; a film label alone does not establish compliance.
Read sourceHow long does installation take?+
Timing depends on the vehicle, existing film and selected coverage.
When can I wash the vehicle or lower the windows?+
Follow the written curing instructions for your film.
How should I clean tinted windows?+
Use a soft, clean cloth and a film-compatible cleaner. Confirm product aftercare instructions before using chemicals or abrasives.
